72Hr Session Sun 2/7 to Weds 5/7 Pegs 3,3a
Well it was a hard going 72hrs with changing conditions. I Fishing with my mate Martin Southall. We arrived on Sunday morning to Clive opening the gates for us. There were anglers on the lake from Saturday night. Serg was on Peg 6 and struggling to catch a carp and Matt and Adam were on pegs 4 and 4a. Adam had had a low teen carp during the night but Matt hadn't had any luck.
There were carp showing everywhere on top across the lake and we decided to set up on pegs 3 (Martin) and 3a so we could have a social as well.
Martin was using Wetbaits new ActiveNut boilie with one of Wetbaits enhancers namely the Wetbaits Banana baitwash and Dave the owner of Wetbaits had specially made some ActiveNut popups for us to try out during our session.
Martins first fish came a few hours into the session, a long dark mirror at 11lbs graced the net.
There were carp everywhere but they were just basking on top enjoying the heat and sunshine unlike us two.
Martins second run was only on for a minute or so before it unfortunately came off out near the islands.
I had a run on the first evening and lifted into it but there was nothing on the end.
The second day (Monday) Kelvin turned up back off holiday and i told him of the carp that we had heard boshing out in peg 6 during the night but Kelvin decided to fish peg 5. Two other anglers turned up to do a 24hr on peg 2.
The fish weren't as prevelent but martin managed to land another mirror at 16lb and lost another carp a little later on.
I had another run in the evening and this time when i lifted into it "game on" but then i lost it at the bank running into one of my other rods line.
Martin was fishing 8"-10" long multi rigs with size 6 Korda Krank hooks popped up with the active nut popups as he was fishing over short blanket weed on the area that he was getting runs from. Martin was feeding the Activenut boilie that was covered with the banana flavour baitwash.
The final day (Tuesday) was looking better for a few bites, overcast and a gentle breeze. Kelvin had managed to land a couple during the night but it had been very quiet for Martin and i except the odd bleep from liners.
Martin landed his 3rd carp which ended up being a lovely hard fighting 18lb mirror.
Finally i managed to bank a nice 16lb mirror (phew) after changing my approach and followed that up a couple of hours later with a good fight resulting in a nice 19lb common.
As the evening drew in on our last night the wind had disappeared and the lake looked like a mirror with a bright moon shining down.
Martin managed another carp at 2am Wednesday morning a perfect little 13lb common to wrap the session up nicely.
So Martin had ended up with 4 carp banked and 2 lost all on single Wetbaits Activenut popups and i ended up with 2 carp landed and 2 lost all fishing on the bottom in clear spots on gravel and silt.
